Liberty University

This University is just great! In my view, a prestige institution and factually fully accredited and recognized internationally. My Bachelor's and Master's degrees are from German universities and I have to say that Liberty University was much more organized and flexible. I have completed the coursework for the Liberty University's Doctorate of Strategic Leadership program and am 8 months into my dissertation. To be clear, DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM. I was lured in by the great military and public safety discount, and the coursework was interesting and worthwhile, but the dissertation process is a complete mess. So few students were able to finish the broken program that they completely reworked it immediately before me. However, it is still broken beyond repair.... Read More I have two other doctorates; one is from the Liberty University School of Government, and I have never seen anything in academia as dysfunctional as their dissertation process. It started with them completely changing the topic that I wanted to do my dissertation on, and ignored my appeal to do something that would be valuable to my military organization. Then, I was assigned a dissertation lead without my input and told I could not change him (however, he is the only rational faculty member I've come into contact with in this process). Then they assign a "research methodologist" who does whatever she wants in contrast to published dissertation guidelines, they clearly have a policy of making students rewrite every submission a minimum of 4 times, just because, and this is after another faculty member has already approved it. To add insult to injury, this methodologist sends back written work products for re-writing and provides feedback in grammatically incorrect sentences and broken English. I appealed thrice to the Dean of the Business school, who just stamped it "denied" without any consideration, follow-up, or feedback. There is no way out of this mess of a program—total amateur hour. Go through ANY OTHER program and you'll be a lot happier.

They do nothing to make you feel like an important student, and I find the online portion of Liberty University to be insignificant in its values. Not recommended. How can there be apathy in online universities like this one? This is not a review on the campus learning, but specifically with the online education. If you're just looking for a quick upgraded degree to further an already established career, then Liberty online is great. But if you're returning after a long period away from school, or you're trying to go in a different direction from your B.A., LUOnline - or any 8 week, Online course -is not a good idea, especially if your desire is to LEARN your subject, not merely pass the requirements of the course.
I started... Read More with the M. Div program, thinking it was biblically-focused, but not so much. We read entire texts four days (Books with 300-400 pages) and wrote 400-600 words by the fifth day, which means if you picked that course to learn and be educated, forget it. To get the grade you wanted, you have to generalize and bullet point.
I repeat, if you're attending ANY 8 week, online program, you're not going there to learn. You're there for the paper.
There's nothing wrong with the latter, because let's face it, after graduating from a 4 year school and working for 20 years, you pretty know enough about your subject and you looking for that paper to upgrade your career, which works with a lot of majors, but as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to areas of theology, apologetics and philosophy, there are no corners to cut. You are there to be immersed in TRUTH, and I hate to say this, but, their Online program in this area is sorely lacking and frankly, filled with holistic, humanist and secular inferences and all the ISMS you thought you were avoiding at the secular schools.
One of the required classes in the M. Div program is a 500 course on research writing. The teacher, the head of the English department, talk the online course, and the first book he had us read covered a book on Ecological systems, and he turned out to be the author, who referred to people like John Dewey, an educator whose contributions have provided the foundation to the sad of education today.
We finished these books on incorporating Pantheism and Humanism into Christianity, and were then asked to write papers on how to convince others to embrace this new way of thinking. There were a few of us who thought, " I want to write on why I wouldn't convince people of this position." There were others (most, as it turns out), who simply said, "I'm giving him want he wants, so I can move on." Wow.
Every class I attended had this type of spin on it, and I withdrew, thinking maybe I can find something that didn't include it. Nope. Not there.
So it's clear: Liberty University is an evangelical institution that incorporates the Western view of the world into the Christian Worldview, believing we can't accomplish the call of the Gospel without compromise. This is unfortunate, because unless you have a strong enough will to stick to your beliefs and support from your family and friends, you're basically in the same boat as you were in while attending a secular university, only you get have Christian terms and phrases on the document you receive upon graduation.
At least, if I had gone to the the secular school, I'd know what I was getting into, and would work to avoid it, but when it sneaks up on you after the second week of classes, you're torn as to what direction to go into - drop, withdraw, consider yourself strong enough to get through it, or struggle, knowing you've spent money, time and energy to get something that just won't be there, because you're too busy taking the deceptive personal.
So, that's my review of the Liberty University Online program. Good school, people graduate, get their degrees, and move on at fees lower than a lot of schools. Just don't make the mistake that the lower tuition and fees are reflective of their belief as Christians, recognize they are running a privately funded Degree mill and you're going there to get the paper in record time, so you can get back to your life's work.

But for the Christian who is working towards a firm, reliable and applicable foundation of faith to build on, accept that 8 week classes may not be enough, and in the case of Liberty University's Online program, when you finish, you leave with the paper, and the feeling that you have been undernourished in what you were hoping to be fed on - God's Word.
In the meantime, I've decided that I'll complete the courses I'm taking now, drop the courses I planned for the second half of the fall term, and concentrate on clearing my mind of the courses taken here. I'll be moving on to Midwestern Theological Seminary in the Spring, and looking forward to the real education I was looking for when I started at LUOnline.

Predatory. They take your money and leave you to fend for yourself. An instructor is assigned to online courses, but they are not helpful and are more for show than to actually utilize. The actual info they teach is fine, they just don't help you get through it. I submitted a complaint for not getting assistance and A professor being unprofessional and their response was to blame me. After enrolling, I had several issues with them.Not giving me all of the information, giving me incorrect information, delaying my g.I bill etc. They Claim to be military friendly comma but they make the process so difficult. I have spent hours and hours and hours on the phone being told wrong info. Do not go to this school. They only care about your money and that is it.

I truly didn't expect 8 week classes to be a breeze, but after watching the Liberty University commercials where the mother dropped off her three kids, went to work, picked up the kids, went shopping, and made dinner just as the husband was coming through the door, and then seeing her sit on the porch with her Liberty t-shirt on, SMILING at her laptop, I figured, "Okay. Fortunately, I'm on the block rate, so as long as I got in 6-12 units I wasn't losing any money - just time. The classes I withdrew had in my mind, serious issues. Their syllabus was not objective on any level. And it was more progressive Christianity which was troublesome for me, when they expected me to write papers on things like this: "The Interconnectedness of Ecology in Ministry." Yeah. "Plants and Proselytizing," but the author of the book, whose whole course was like one big survey. He kept asking to submit papers talking about ourselves, how we felt and how it fit with his views in his book.
The last straw was being told we had to write a paper on an approach, but the instructions were not on how to write an opinion. The question was simply, "How would you convince someone to do this, this way if they didn't believe it would work?" So, it was assumed that I would embrace it, because the teacher said it was. I was very upset about this, and I shared it with the school, and withdrew from the course. The whole point of avoiding a secular school was to learn how to 'think,' but that's not happening here. I still wonder how many students - young and old - just take certain classes without questioning what some of these teachers are putting out there - for the grade. There was only teacher I felt good about, and I learned a great deal in his class.
Just to get the degree.
So, I decided to walk away from the M.Div program, and focus on coursework that focused on methodology and not religion, because I just want this done. I'll get the biblical courses elsewhere.

I do not recommend Liberty University Online. Apart from issues within the coursework itself, the school lacks student support. Professors, advisors, and the student advocacy team do not address students’ concerns. Awful wasted months and money. They are either really unorganized or just make it impossible if they don't want you there. I would rather them not accept me than waste all my time. I am good at school. I took other college classes through other universities (dual enrollment) some of them where you just read a textbook and took tests and that was it. Others were they were regular online courses. I passed all of them with A’s. I can say definitively liberty’s are terrible. There are ZERO lectures or instruction, an insane amount of work in the form or papers, which you have to integrate the Bible into. Exams are hard and the problems are supposed to be similar to homework and practice quizzes but half the time they aren’t. You need more instruction for high level accounting classes than a textbook and an unhelpful teacher.

All of my online professors for my MFA in Creative Writing were professional. The online educational structure is excellent if you are looking to become a better creative writer of fiction and nonfiction, poetry, or screenwriting. Several award-winning professors mentor their students in improving their craft. Standards are high—this is an extremely challenging terminal degree. Stay away from Liberty University in general, especially the Aviation department. Online instruction is very low quality, communication with student advising is poor, and there is no academic support from the aviation department for students striving to achieve R-ATP or other important aviation milestones. It is far less expensive to go direct through the affiliate. If you're chasing R-ATP, there are several other schools with far better reputations out there. Liberty has lost GI Bill funding - which speaks volumes about how bad Liberty is - if you're a vet looking for an education using the GI Bill or other VA benefits, look elsewhere.

I went to a real university for a real degree before this one. These professors do not care about true content of what they’re teaching. They just care about god. Furthermore, they grade in a way that makes zero sense. I got a C on a paper I would have gotten zero negative remarks about from a different school because I didn’t “talk about god enough”. I have been both a student and an employee at this school and in every way it was truly horrible. My freshman year I got roofied at a party and the staff addressing it said that it was my fault. I then could not transfer due to the courses I was put in because I would have to be a freshman all over again. Over the next few years I was constantly let down by both the staff and the students at this school. The corrupt morals were a plague in almost every aspect. Despite my deep hatred for the school at this point I felt like I needed to take it. I was paying for school myself and could not afford anymore loans. Upon taking the job I wanted to make sure that I gave the students genuine and real help that I had not received myself. I went above and beyond and always made sure that I was doing all I could for all students. Then about 6 months in I got fired. They said that I was not taking enough calls even though I had one of the highest call volumes on my team. They said that I should have been spending less time composing emails to students and working with other departments on their behalf, and more time expediting calls to hop into the next one. So to conclude, in every way this school has been a horrible experience. While I was able to leave with a few close and amazing friends they too feel similarly about the school. 0/10 do not recommend.
