SHSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate degrees, and certificates. Some of the online bachelor's degrees available include homeland security studies, fashion merchandising, and communication studies. 

SHSU prides itself on having a talented online faculty that implements state-of-the-art learning technologies. The coursework within SHSU’s online degree programs challenges students to prepare them for becoming skilled professionals in their chosen fields.

For undergraduate students, SHSU offers a variety of fields of study to choose from. Some examples of its diverse online offerings at the undergraduate level include healthcare administration, victim studies, and political science. SHSU states that some benefits of attending online include flexibility, simplicity, quality, and networking capabilities. In addition, online students at SHSU have access to resources such as an online bookstore, a career success center, and academic advising.

According to College Scorecard data, five undergraduate fields of study have the highest earnings at SHSU. These degrees include registered nursing, nursing administration, nursing research and clinical nursing at $73,214; computer and information sciences at $67,947; construction engineering at $67,313; agricultural mechanization at $59,631; and geological and Earth sciences/geosciences at $57,081. Prospective students can find several online bachelor’s degree programs within these five fields of study at SHSU.

At SHSU, online programs are similar to traditional ones but occur virtually and last for one semester. All online courses at SHSU are developed and taught by the school’s teaching faculty and include a combination of text, video, discussion boards, lectures, and other materials. The university hosts online courses on Blackboard Learn, a learning management system available on desktop and mobile. Online classes are delivered in both asynchronous (no set class times) and synchronous (scheduled class times) formats, depending on the course. 

SHSU’s acceptance rate is 93% for undergraduate students, which indicates that it’s not competitive to enroll in an online degree program. The university’s acceptance rate is based on submitted college entrance exam scores. Most undergraduate students admitted into SHSU had college entrance exam scores within the following ranges: (1) the SAT critical reading score was between 490-570, the SAT math score was between 480-550, and the ACT score ranged from 18-23.

To apply to one of SHSU’s online undergraduate degree programs, prospective students must submit an online application to be considered for enrollment.

• Official SAT/ACT scores (optional)
• Official high school transcripts that show GPA and degree plan

SHSU’s application deadlines are August 1, December 1, and May 15.
